Stress is really debilitating.
Stress affects how you you feel, think, behave and how your body works.
It creeps up on you, you get used to it. An acute condition quickly becomes a chronic problem.
TCM treats stress really effectively. It does this by treating you holistically – in Traditional Chinese Medicine there is no separation between the body and the spirit.
Stress starts as a feeling – a feeling of being under too much pressure; mental or emotional pressure. Pressure becomes stress when you feel unable to cope.
This triggers a surge of hormones in your body; these create the fight or flight reaction. This stress response allows you to deal with the pressure.
When you have dealt with the pressure, the hormone levels return to normal. Unless you are constantly under stress in which case the hormone levels stay high. What should be no more than an acute condition has become a chronic one.
Chronic stress can damage your health, mood, productivity, relationships and the quality of your life. It can disrupt nearly every system in your body – it can raise your blood pressure, suppress your immune system, increase your risk of heart attack and stroke, contribute to infertility, speed ageing, cause insomnia, depression and anxiety.
It is really damaging. That is why you should deal with it.
